The goal of ISW is to provide high quality continuing education courses for practitioners in orthopaedic manual physical therapy. Our courses have an emphasis on advancing practitioners manual therapy skill and techniques, clinical reasoning, and use of current best evidence into daily practice.  At the end of the course practitioners will be more efficient and effective at treating orthopedic conditions.

After attending several orthopaedic manual therapy courses, I was tired of spending the first 4 to 5 hours of the course reviewing very basic material instead that could have been covered in pre-reading before the course. I wanted to hurry up and get to the hands on component to the course, clinical reasoning, and specific patient case examples. I decided to design courses that I would want to attend myself; high-quality orthopaedic manual therapy courses, interwoven throughout with clinical reasoning, and supported with current research.

ISW has a very inclusive course book with supporting evidence for manual therapy interventions for a variety of orthopaedic conditions. However, the focus of the class time will be spent in the lab (over 80%). This allows for participants to improve their assessment and treatment techniques for improved patient outcomes.

In addition, being from a small town here in Virginia, I was spending hours of my time traveling, mostly out of state, to attend quality manual therapy courses several times per year. A lot of courses do not go into smaller towns or areas because they can’t get enough participants to make the class worth their while.

ISW is the opposite. We will go into smaller communities and clinics and bring in high-quality orthopaedic manual therapy courses. This saves the participants travel time, money, and missed work hours.  We keep our instructors to participant ratio at no more than 1:10 so that participants get the most interaction with instructors.

ISW’s inaugural courses are one-day, that will be approved for 8 contact hours. As a full-time physical therapist myself, I know how stressful work and documentation can be. A one-day course allows participants to enjoy the rest of their weekend to recharge after the course before heading back to work on Monday. If you are interested in taking a course or would like to learn more feel out the contact form or view our available courses now!
